Further Details

My creative spirit is fuelled by my writing, photography, and deep exploration of the wilderness. The recipient of over twenty literary honours, my award-winning poetry, fiction and nonfiction have been published in Clarkesworld, Langscape, Animals and Science Education, Poems for the Pacific, and many other publications. I served as primary photography for four of LonePine's field guidebooks, most recently Wild Berries of Washington and Oregon. My photography has featured in textbooks, wildlife ID guides, calendars, websites, brochures and art galleries.

With more than twenty years' as a university educator, teaching in the classroom, science lab, and field, I am equally at home in the sciences and arts. I have taught such diverse courses as ecology, advanced molecular biology, expressive arts, genetics, marine biology and the Amazon Field School.

In addition to the many collaborations at KPU, I have also worked with BC Nature, Island Discovery School, and many other organizations. I was the co-curator and content lead for the Museum of Vancouver's exhibition, Wild Things: The Power of Nature in our Lives

My PhD research received eighteen scholarships and fellowships, including a SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship, a SSHRC Storytellers’ Award, and a SSHRC Engagement Prize. I have published my research in Ecopsychology, Cultural Studies of Science Education, Poetic Inquiry: Enchantments of Place, Scientists and Poets #RESIST, SFU Educational Review, and in many other publications.
